Scott Lynn Kilburg Obituary: A Community’s Beacon

It’s truly amazing how the world works. Life has a way of throwing curveballs when you least expect it. I felt that way when I heard that Scott Lynn Kilburg had died. Bellevue seems to have lost a piece of its soul. But I want to talk about more than just the facts of Scott’s life. I want to talk about the spirit of a guy who touched so many people.

A life to be honored

The Off Shore Event Center in Bellevue, Iowa, will hold a service to remember Scott on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 am. It will be a sunny morning. I can already see the place: Scott’s friends and family, sharing stories and maybe even some tears, all there to celebrate his trip.

Scott came into the world on February 16, 1973. He was a winter kid who would grow up to make everyone happy. Parents Dennis Kilburg and Diane Michels must have known right away that they had a special child.

Someone Famous on the Court

The records at Bellevue Marquette High School still whisper his name. Scott loved basketball more than any other sport. Every day, Scott would shoot baskets across from his childhood home. It wasn’t just for fun; it was a way for him to show his dedication, which he took with him throughout his life.

Scott went to Mount Mercy College after high school. He was the first person in his family to go to college. Think about that pride: a lighthouse for future generations!

A loving heart

His personal life was just as interesting as his work life. The two got married on May 30, 1998. Sarah Wagner was his college love. They made a family tapestry full of love and happiness by giving birth to Jake and Ellie together.

He had a lot of support from his parents, in-laws, siblings, and many cousins and nephews. Each of them carried a little bit of Scott’s spirit with them.

Giving in the Family

Instead of the usual ways of showing grief, Scott’s family has decided to honor him by leaving behind a legacy that will live on. Through the Community Foundation of Dubuque, the Scott L. Kilburg Scholarship Fund wants to help Bellevue first-generation college students. Helping others reach their goals, just like he did, is a beautiful way to keep his spirit alive.

The Sign of His Past

As the day to honor Scott’s life draws near, it’s clear that he was more than just a resident of Bellevue; he was a part of it. Not only will his records and work live on, but so will the community he helped grow, the family he loved, and the futures he envisioned.

The story of Scott Lynn Kilburg isn’t just about what was lost; it’s also about what will grow from the seeds he planted in this town. Now that we’re here to remember him, let’s think about how we can be more like Scott, who was passionate, committed, and always grateful. Doesn’t that make the best way to remember someone who gave me so much?

Visit the Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service to send your thoughts or make a donation to Scott’s scholarship fund. We need to make sure that his legacy goes on, not just in our minds, but also in the world.
