There once was a girl named Jane McAdams “Janey” Thompson who resided in Charlotte, North Carolina. You know, she wasn’t your typical gal. Janey, who was born and raised where dogwoods blossom, has crammed a lot of life into her 20 years. Unfortunately, on April 9, 2024, an unexpected blood clot cut her story short. But hold on, let’s not think about the end just yet.
Dive into this story with me and discover the joy and brilliance Janey left behind, shall we?
A star that shone brightly in Charlotte’s sky
Janey was an absolute fireball! Coming out of Myers Park High School, she was ready to take on the world—or at least the court and the classroom. Consider this: four sports awards jingling in her pockets, including all-conference accolades in basketball. By 2022, she was dubbed Female Athlete of the Year. And that’s not all! Janey balanced her athletics with her academic pursuits, majoring in biophysics at Wake Forest University. Yes, sir, she wore her physics scholarship like a badge of pride and never dropped off the dean’s list.
A helping hand, and a hearty laugh
Aside from textbooks and basketballs, Janey was the queen of belly laughs and bear hugs. If loyalty had a face, I imagine it would resemble hers. Her sense of humour? Infectious. Her heart? As large as the great outdoors. She left an indelible impression not only on scoreboards, but also on the lives of all those lucky ducks who were her friends.
Charlotte Wept
Charlotte is a vast city, but the void Janey left feels much bigger. Friends and family—and even strangers moved by her story—are knee-deep in recollections and “what could’ve beens.” A tribute is planned to celebrate her light and legacy, reflecting the great impact she has had on so many.
Finally, remember that there are never real goodbyes
So, what can be said about Janey Thompson? She lived furiously, laughed heartily, and loved deeply. Her chapter ended too soon, but the story is far from over. Janey lives on through every chuckle in her memory and every ball thrown in her spirit. At “Legacy Lanes,” we salute this wonderful individual. Visit our “Hall of Legends” for additional stories, or leave a tribute to keep her memory shining bright at https://legacylane.info.
There’s a statement about stars and how their light lasts long after they’ve gone. Janey, you are proof enough of that.
